The Unmaking of the American Working Class
Reg Theriault
New Press

Basically, this is a memoir of the author's experiences of his many years as a manual laborer - primarily as a "fruit tramp" and longshoreman - and union official. One is brought back to the days when unions were strong and able to secure a real middle class living for working people. Muscle, sweat, and working class pride and dignity are palpable in this very readable volume.
